Lecture Title: "Unbox Responsible GeoAI: Navigating Climate Extreme and Disaster Mapping" Speaker: Hao Li, GIS Lecturer, Dept. of Geography, National University of Singapore About the Talk: As extreme climate and disaster events become more frequent and intense, geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) has emerged as a transformative approach to large-scale disaster mapping and risk reduction. However, performance-driven GeoAI models can amplify spatial inequalities, hinder emergency decision-making and increase environmental carbon footprints. From a critical GIS perspective, this presentation examines responsible GeoAI in climate extremes and disaster mapping through four interconnected dimensions: representativeness, explainability, sustainability and ethics. It also introduces a conceptual governance model that organizes responsible GeoAI practices into three areas: data, application and society. Ultimately, climate resilience depends not only on better algorithms but also on fostering a governance ecosystem where GeoAI is deployed responsibly, ethically and sustainably. Speaker Bio: Hao Li is a GIS lecturer in the Dept.
