Scottsdale's onSemi to acquire Ferric, expanding its AI chip power technology.

On November 2, onsemi, a semiconductor company that makes power-management and sensing chips, announced an agreement to acquire Ferric, a developer of technology that delivers electrical power to computer processors.

The agreement calls for $600 million in cash, plus up to $175 million in additional payments if Ferric meets specified revenue milestones. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to closing conditions.

Ferric specializes in technology that regulates electricity close to AI processors. onsemi says the acquisition will expand its ability to supply power-management components for increasingly demanding AI systems.

What does this mean for Arizona?

onsemi maintains its global headquarters, chip design and research operations in Scottsdale.

Approximately 50 Ferric employees, primarily based in New York and Silicon Valley, are expected to join onsemi. The announcement did not include any new Arizona jobs or facility expansion plans.

onsemi also raised its AI data-center revenue target for 2030 by $500 million to more than $3 billion. That figure is a company forecast, not revenue already earned.

The acquisition remains pending.
