Senior CPU Performance Architect

This architect will guide CPU microarchitecture from early exploration through RTL and silicon, assessing tradeoffs and developing specifications that meet demanding performance, power, and scalability goals. The work sits within Intel’s Silicon and Platform Engineering organization and involves partnering with architecture, design, verification, validation, and software teams. Key activities include workload-based modeling, bottleneck analysis, feature definition, and debugging mismatches between simulations, RTL, and measured silicon behavior. The position suits an experienced CPU specialist with deep knowledge of at least one major core domain and extensive experience with cycle-accurate C++ simulators. Candidates should also be comfortable with RTL analysis, assembly-based testing, object-oriented programming, and solving complex microarchitectural problems.

Requirements

Master's degree with 10+ years experience or PhD with 6+ years in high-performance x86/ARM CPU design8+ years of hands-on experience with cycle-accurate C++ CPU performance simulatorsExpert-level knowledge in at least one CPU domain (branch prediction, fetch/decode, execution, memory subsystem, prefetchers)Strong microarchitecture debugging and RTL analysis skillsProficiency in C++, scripting languages, and ability to write/debug assembly testsExperience correlating performance across simulation, RTL, and post-silicon validation
