Senior Engineer I, Process Engineering [CMP]

This engineer will create and improve CMP processes for materials and structures used across logic, memory, analog, power, and MEMS devices. The work involves planning experiments, analyzing process and metrology data, establishing control strategies, and resolving issues involving uniformity, planarity, defects, corrosion, and cleaning performance. The engineer will collaborate with research, product, hardware, service, marketing, and customer teams to demonstrate solutions and support their transfer into use. Responsibilities also include technical documentation, publications, intellectual property development, and occasional coaching of technicians. The position suits someone with semiconductor CMP experience who is comfortable combining chemistry, equipment knowledge, statistical problem solving, and customer-facing communication.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, materials science, mechanical or electrical engineering, chemistry, or physicsAt least 2 years of semiconductor CMP process development, integration, or applications experienceKnowledge of CMP slurries, pads, conditioners, cleaning chemistries, and consumable optimizationExperience with DOE, SPC, root-cause analysis, and process capability methodsFamiliarity with CMP metrology and surface characterization, including profilometry, ellipsometry, AFM, SEM, or inspectionStrong cross-functional communication skills and willingness to travel up to approximately 20%
