The Director of Mechanical Engineering serves as the senior leader for mechanical product development at Axon, guiding next-generation safety technologies through their entire lifecycle. This position owns both the technical execution of complex mechanical designs and the strategic direction of the mechanical engineering organization, requiring deep involvement in engineering details alongside team leadership and organizational vision. The role demands constant collaboration with cross-functional partners including electrical engineers, industrial designers, product managers, and manufacturing teams to deliver high-volume consumer and professional electronic products. This position suits experienced mechanical engineering leaders who thrive in fast-paced environments, combine hands-on technical problem-solving with people leadership, and can balance competing design constraints while maintaining the highest quality standards. Success requires both the ability to inspire and develop engineering talent and the willingness to actively participate in design work, prototyping, and technical problem-solving.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred) with 15+ years of product design experience in high-end electronicsMinimum 6+ years leading and developing mechanical engineering teams with proven hiring and talent development skillsDemonstrated success launching high-volume electronic products through production with expertise in high-volume manufacturing and assembly processesProficiency in 3D CAD modeling (CREO preferred), mechanical analysis (FEA, tolerance analysis, kinematics), and design for manufacturability/assemblyExperience managing overseas development and manufacturing partners, PDM/PLM systems, and change management processesStrong cross-functional collaboration skills with ability to design, prototype, test, and solve complex mechanical engineering challenges in fast-paced environments
