Sr. Principal Engineer, Systems (Plasma Multi-Scale Simulation Scientist)

This position sits within ASM’s Simulation and Modeling Hub and expands the company’s plasma modeling capabilities for advanced semiconductor manufacturing. The engineer will develop fluid and hybrid plasma models, connect them with surface, molecular, CFD, thermal, and other multiphysics approaches, and help create practical simulation workflows. They will work closely with experimental groups to validate models through diagnostic data and translate findings into process and equipment recommendations. The role also contributes to technical roadmaps, modeling standards, and new simulation methods. It is well suited to a Ph.D.-level scientist with strong plasma-process expertise who enjoys combining fundamental research with industrial application.

Requirements

Ph.D. in applied physics, plasma physics, materials science, chemical engineering, or a related fieldExperience with plasma-assisted semiconductor processes including PEALD, PECVD, ALE, or RIEProven experience in computational plasma modelingAbility to connect theoretical models with experimental validation and manufacturing needsExperience with first-principles, molecular dynamics, surface reaction, feature-scale, or device-scale simulation is preferredFamiliarity with multiphysics coupling, reduced-order models, hybrid modeling, or industrial R&D is preferred
