Amtech Systems, Inc. is a semiconductor equipment company headquartered at 58 South River Drive in Tempe, Arizona, whose Arizona manufacturing today is its Entrepix subsidiary in Phoenix, where 28 people worked at the manufacturing plants as of September 30, 2025. In its quarter ended June 30, 2026, the company said the segment that includes Entrepix continues to face softer demand, particularly for silicon carbide products, while AI demand lifted its packaging equipment business, whose reflow ovens and furnaces are made outside Arizona. Its common stock trades on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol ASYS. It was incorporated in Arizona in October 1981 under the name Quartz Engineering & Materials, Inc. and changed to its present name in 1987. Its annual report says it provides reflow equipment for chip packaging and electronic assembly, diffusion furnaces for wafer processing, wafer cleaning equipment, chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) consumables, and related chemicals and services to semiconductor manufacturers. The business has two segments: Thermal Processing Solutions produced 73% of fiscal 2025 revenue worldwide and Semiconductor Fabrication Solutions produced 27%. The company employed 264 people worldwide as of September 30, 2025.

Amtech's link to AI runs through its reflow ovens, convection systems used in the solder reflow step of advanced semiconductor packaging, including 2.5D and flip-chip packaging. The company says it believes its reflow oven systems have leading market share with the outsourced assembly and test providers that perform advanced packaging of AI chips. It also says AI-related revenue in the quarter ended June 30, 2026 was up approximately 120% from a year earlier, without giving a dollar amount, and that demand for advanced packaging and server board assembly equipment raised Thermal Processing Solutions revenue 25% from the prior year period. That equipment is not made in Arizona: the 10-K says the reflow equipment and furnaces are made at the company's facility in China and by contract manufacturing partners in China, Canada and Singapore. In Arizona, Amtech sits earlier in the chain, at wafer fabrication. Its Phoenix subsidiary Entrepix supplies equipment for silicon carbide and silicon wafer cleaning, testing equipment used to tune CMP processes, CMP equipment parts and services, and CMP foundry services, mainly for mature-node silicon and silicon carbide fabs; Amtech does not run a wafer fab itself [not independently verified].

Entrepix says it was founded in 1998, and Amtech acquired the Phoenix-based company on January 17, 2023, for a purchase price of $35 million, funded with available cash and a term loan with UMB Bank. Amtech said Entrepix reported revenues of $26.7 million (unaudited) for the twelve months ended December 31, 2022, a figure for the whole Entrepix business rather than Arizona sales alone [not independently verified]. Entrepix lists its headquarters at 4717 E Hilton Avenue, Suite 200, in Phoenix, and Amtech's fiscal 2025 10-K lists 37,000 square feet of leased office and manufacturing space in Phoenix; the January 2023 acquisition release described a 38,000 square foot facility [not independently verified]. The 10-K says the Phoenix facility assembles two versions of the company's double-side wafer scrubbers and cleaners, and that the Semiconductor Fabrication Solutions segment makes its products in Arizona, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Connecticut. Entrepix says its in-house foundry offers CMP services for 1 to 12 inch wafers, process development and fab transfer, training, and harvest and remanufacturing of customer-owned equipment.

Amtech's headquarters also changed in this period. In May 2024, Greater Phoenix In Business Magazine reported that JLL had completed a building sale and new office lease that moved Amtech's global headquarters into the Rio2100 mixed-use development in Tempe. The same report said Amtech had kept its headquarters in Tempe for more than 30 years, most recently in a 14,720 square foot building at 131 South Clark Drive [not independently verified]. The fiscal 2024 10-K reported $2.7 million of proceeds from the sale of the company's real property in Arizona, without naming the property. The fiscal 2025 10-K lists the Tempe headquarters as a leased space of 6,388 square feet. The company's Arizona workforce is reported by site: 21 at the Tempe corporate offices and 42 at the Phoenix manufacturing plants as of September 30, 2024, and 14 and 28 a year later. The filings do not give a combined Arizona total.

Among its accomplishments, Entrepix describes itself as an early pioneer of the refurbished equipment market and says it launched the first CMP outsourcing service, through which it now operates the world's largest CMP technology portfolio. In February 2023, Amtech announced the booking of the 20th new OnTrak double-sided wafer scrubber system sold into silicon carbide manufacturing, a product line made by Entrepix [not independently verified].

The company has also been through a difficult stretch. Its board decided in April 2019 to exit the solar business, which was based in the Netherlands [not independently verified]. At September 30, 2023, Amtech was not in compliance with two financial covenants under the loan agreement with UMB Bank, and on December 5, 2023, it entered into a forbearance and modification agreement; the fiscal 2025 10-K says the loan was fully repaid and terminated effective September 11, 2024 [not independently verified]. In December 2023 the company announced a reduction in force at each of its businesses and an exit from the legacy PR Hoffman equipment business, without giving an Arizona headcount; the filings later show Arizona site headcounts falling from 21 in Tempe and 42 in Phoenix in September 2024 to 14 and 28 in September 2025, but do not tie that decline to the 2023 action. In fiscal 2025, net revenue fell 22% to $79.4 million from $101.2 million, and the company reported a net loss of $30.3 million. That year it recognized goodwill impairments of $15.4 million in the Semiconductor Fabrication Solutions segment, which includes Entrepix, and $5.0 million in Thermal Processing Solutions, plus a $2.6 million intangible asset impairment in the fabrication segment primarily at Entrepix. The filings do not assign the goodwill charge to Arizona. In April 2025, Amtech said a dispute over a previously cancelled order delayed shipment of a separate order of approximately $4.9 million; no later update on that dispute was found. In its June 2026 quarter, the company said its mature-node Semiconductor Fabrication Solutions segment, the segment that includes the Phoenix operation, continued to face softer demand, particularly for silicon carbide products.

Recent changes reach the top of the company. Amtech closed a public stock offering on June 3, 2026, with total gross proceeds of $60 million before underwriting discounts and expenses; the company named no Arizona project for the money [not independently verified]. Its board appointed Guy Shechter as President and Chief Executive Officer effective August 13, 2026, with Bob Daigle becoming Executive Chairman.

For Arizona, the facts point in two directions. Amtech is an Arizona corporation with its headquarters and 14 corporate staff in Tempe, and its Arizona manufacturing is at the Entrepix operation in Phoenix, whose manufacturing plants had 28 employees as of September 2025. The AI packaging demand the company describes is served by ovens built in China and by contract manufacturers abroad, while the Phoenix operation sits in the smaller fabrication segment that the company says faces softer demand.
