Cognite is an industrial AI software company whose global headquarters has been at 40 E Rio Salado Pkwy, Suite 900, in Tempe since December 2025. On June 30, 2026, Schneider Electric agreed to acquire 100% of Cognite Holding B.V. in an all cash transaction valued at $3.1 billion; closing is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, and no completion announcement had been found as of October 3, 2026 [not independently verified]. Cognite describes itself as an AI company that delivers industrial software to improve production efficiency for energy, process manufacturing and other industrial companies. Its two main products are Cognite Data Fusion, an industrial data platform whose knowledge graph integrates, models and contextualizes engineering, operational and enterprise data, and Atlas AI, which adds generative and agentic AI and which Cognite calls a low-code industrial agent builder. Aker ASA, a Norwegian company, reported owning 50.5% of Cognite as of June 2026 [not independently verified]. Girish Rishi is chief executive officer and chairman of the board. Besides its Tempe headquarters, Cognite lists offices in Austin and Houston, Texas; Fornebu, near Oslo, Norway; Tokyo, Japan; and Bengaluru, India.

Cognite's place in AI is as a software layer that prepares industrial operating data for AI models and agents. In March 2026 the company announced that it had connected the industrial knowledge graph in Cognite Data Fusion to NVIDIA's NV-Tesseract time-series models, packaged as NVIDIA NIM microservices, and said the chemical maker Celanese had deployed the resulting forecasting solution at its Clear Lake, Texas, plant. Cognite also says that in Q1 2026 its customers' knowledge graphs held more than 85 trillion time series data points in context, up 30% from a year earlier. The verified sources tie Cognite to energy and process manufacturing customers. They name no Arizona customer and no semiconductor manufacturer as a customer, so Arizona AI does not describe Cognite as part of the chip supply chain.

Aker says Cognite was established in January 2017 by Aker together with others. Cognite's move to Arizona was reported by the Tempe News on Feb. 1, 2025. That report said the new headquarters was expected to create about 110 jobs and that about 40 more members of the senior management team in Oslo and Austin would transfer to Tempe. At the December 2025 opening the company put the figure at more than 100 new Phoenix-area jobs, and Arizona AI found no published count of actual Tempe hires as of October 2026. The February 2025 report also said the office would house senior leadership, engineering, products, services, research and development, finance, human resources, information technology and strategy. According to the same report, Rishi and Coulter, who had worked together at Blue Yonder in Scottsdale, both lived in the Valley, which contributed to the choice of Tempe, along with Class A office space, the workforce coming out of Arizona State University and the Valley's tech community. Coulter also said Cognite was in discussions with ASU about making its software available to train students; no signed agreement after that February 2025 report was found [not independently verified].

On December 3, 2025, Cognite held the grand opening of its new global headquarters in Tempe, relocating the headquarters from Oslo, Norway. The office takes about 30,000 square feet on the ninth floor of Hayden Ferry Lakeside III at 40 E Rio Salado Pkwy, Suite 900. Cognite's own pages call it the Phoenix Headquarters, although the address is in Tempe [not independently verified]. The company said the Tempe office would serve as the central hub for its global operations, that several senior leaders had relocated from Norway to lead operations there, and that the move would create more than 100 new jobs in the Phoenix area. Arizona AI found no published count of actual Tempe hires as of October 2026. In January 2026 Cognite said it had established its global headquarters in Arizona in 2025, and its about page still listed the Tempe office as headquarters when Arizona AI checked it on October 3, 2026 [not independently verified].

Cognite reports that it exceeded $170 million in annual revenue for fiscal 2025, a preliminary and unaudited figure from a privately held company [not independently verified]. It also says its headcount grew 21% and passed 800 people worldwide by January 2026. CNBC ranked Cognite 15th on its 2026 Disruptor 50 list, as reported in Cognite's release. Aker says it has invested approximately NOK 750 million in Cognite, an investor figure for the whole company and not an Arizona investment.

Cognite's ownership is set to change. On June 30, 2026, Schneider Electric announced a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Cognite Holding B.V. in an all cash transaction valued at $3.1 billion. Aker expects the deal to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to customary regulatory approvals, and no completion announcement had been found as of early October 2026 [not independently verified]. Schneider Electric says that after completion Cognite will be integrated with AVEVA and reported within its Industrial Automation business. The announcement does not say what will happen to the Tempe headquarters. No published source gives an actual count of people working in Tempe; the figures available are hiring targets, and the worldwide headcount is not attributed to Arizona.

Taken together, the facts show an industrial AI software company that moved its global headquarters from Oslo, Norway, to Tempe in December 2025 with a hiring target of more than 100 Phoenix-area jobs, and that, as of October 2026, is set to become part of Schneider Electric, which has not said what the deal means for the Tempe office [not independently verified].
