Sr. Water Quality Engineer

QTS Data CentersPhoenix, AZ

This role leads water quality engineering for cooling towers, chilled water plants, heat rejection systems, reclaimed water networks, and emerging cooling technologies across QTS campuses. The engineer partners with design, construction, commissioning, operations, environmental health and safety, and sustainability teams to establish standards, assess water sources, optimize water usage, and resolve system problems. Responsibilities include analyzing chemistry and treatment performance, overseeing vendors, managing Legionella and other compliance risks, and conducting investigations and corrective actions. The position also contributes to new-facility startups, global infrastructure expansion, and water stewardship initiatives while mentoring less-experienced engineers. It suits an experienced industrial water treatment or mission-critical infrastructure professional who can lead complex projects, communicate across disciplines, travel to sites, and support a continuously operating data center environment.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or environmental engineering, or equivalent experienceAt least 7 years of experience in industrial water treatment, water quality, cooling systems, or mission-critical infrastructureAdvanced knowledge of cooling-water chemistry, corrosion, scaling, microbiological control, and treatment programsExperience with cooling towers, chilled water plants, condenser water systems, and industrial treatment systemsStrong project leadership, analytical, communication, and technical writing skillsWillingness to travel to domestic and international data center sites
