Principal DCIM Design Engineer

QTS Data CentersPhoenix, AZ

This role serves as QTS’s design authority for scalable data center controls, monitoring, and infrastructure management systems. It guides the development of design requirements, architectures, sequences of operation, instrumentation documentation, integration models, and alarm strategies across multiple projects and platforms. The engineer works closely with controls partners, consultants, procurement, construction, IT, mechanical, and electrical teams while overseeing quality, testing, documentation, and commissioning readiness. The position also advances simulation and digital twin efforts to validate system behavior before deployment. It suits an experienced controls or automation professional who can combine deep mission-critical systems expertise with strategic leadership, vendor management, and mentoring skills.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, industrial automation, or equivalent experience10+ years of mission-critical controls experience, including data centersExpertise with EPMS, BMS, and SCADA platformsExperience with PLC platforms such as Rockwell, Schneider Electric, or SiemensKnowledge of BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, TCP/IP, SNMP, and ISO 16484Ability to lead cross-functional teams and travel up to 50%
