This engineer will act as the responsible engineer for IR window materials and assemblies, overseeing requirements, design trades, verification, qualification, and production readiness. The position works across optical, structural, thermal, materials, GNC, manufacturing, and test organizations while coordinating with government agencies, suppliers, research institutions, and international partners. Key work includes evaluating materials, coatings, bonds, seals, mounting structures, manufacturing processes, and nondestructive inspection methods. The engineer will also guide documentation, procurement, risk mitigation, technical reviews, and environmental and mechanical testing. It suits an experienced aerospace or defense professional with strong optomechanical and materials expertise who can lead complex, multidisciplinary programs and communicate effectively with technical stakeholders.

Requirements

Bachelor's in Optical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field with 8+ years experience (or Master's with 6+ years, or PhD with 4+ years)Professional experience leading design and qualification of IR optical materials and window assemblies for aerospace or defense systemsExpertise in material and component testing including thermal cycling, vibration, shock, and MIL-STD test methodsDemonstrated experience with non-destructive inspection (NDI) methods for optical or structural componentsAbility to obtain US Government Secret security clearance; familiarity with export control regulationsStrong technical problem-solving and communication skills with ability to lead cross-functional teams and present findings to stakeholders
