Senior Software Safety / Senior System Safety Engineer

This engineer will develop and execute system and software safety programs across the product lifecycle, including hazard analysis, risk evaluation, verification, and customer approval activities. The position sits within RTX’s multidisciplinary System Safety organization and supports products by working closely with systems, software, firmware, hardware, electrical, and program teams. Responsibilities include reviewing software and firmware, preparing safety assessments and technical reports, leading safety working groups, and coordinating with government authorities, suppliers, and customers. The work is suited to an experienced safety or systems engineer with aerospace, automotive, or medical-device experience and familiarity with MIL-STD-882E, DO-178, or related standards. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance, with an active Secret clearance required after starting.

Requirements

STEM degree with minimum 5 years relevant experience in system safety, software engineering, or aerospace/defense domainProficiency with MIL-STD-882E and risk assessment methodologies (DO-178, etc.)Experience analyzing and evaluating software/firmware against military and industry standardsActive or existing DoD Secret clearance (required by day 1)U.S. citizenship and ability to maintain government security clearanceStrong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills
