Principal Engineer, Systems Engineering (Systems and Mechanical Engineering – Electrostatic Chuck (ESC))

This role leads the hardware engineering function for electrostatic chuck and heater platforms at ASM, a major semiconductor equipment manufacturer. You will own the full product development cycle including design, safety validation, cost optimization, and manufacturing support, while also spearheading exploration of breakthrough technologies and new materials. The position reports to the Expert System Engineering Manager and requires someone who thrives in dynamic, multicultural environments, combining deep technical expertise in materials science and thermal engineering with strategic thinking and cross-functional collaboration. It suits experienced mechanical or electrical engineers who are passionate about innovation, comfortable managing complex technical projects, and motivated to create patented solutions that advance semiconductor processing capabilities.

Requirements

Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical or Electrical EngineeringHardware engineering experience in semiconductor processing equipmentExpertise in materials science (AlN, Al2O3, SiC, C22 alloys) and thermal engineeringKnowledge of clamping mechanisms, failure modes, vacuum and plasma physicsDemonstrated system thinking and mechanical design/manufacturing process proficiencyTrack record of delivering engineering solutions in multicultural environments
