As a senior principal mechanical engineer, you will lead the Precision Control Actuation System organization's engineering efforts across multiple defense programs. Your responsibilities span detailed mechanical design, systems engineering, test execution, and earned value management while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with subject matter experts. This position suits experienced mechanical engineers with deep expertise in servo controls, permanent magnet motors, and feedback control systems who thrive in technical environments requiring both strategic thinking and hands-on hardware problem-solving. You'll flex between program needs, applying advanced knowledge in kinematic analysis, design-for-manufacturing, and control system integration. The role offers exposure to cutting-edge laboratory work including builds, integration, tuning, and verification of sophisticated actuation systems.

Requirements

10+ years mechanical engineering design experience or advanced degree with 7+ years relevant experienceExpert knowledge in control actuation systems and servo controls developmentProficiency in CREO/Pro-Engineer, GD&T per ASME Y14.5, and Matlab/Simulink/dSpaceActive, transferable DoD Secret security clearance and U.S. citizenshipDemonstrated experience with BLDC motors, feedback control systems, and design-for-manufacturingProven ability to work autonomously while influencing organizational strategy and mentoring others
